ICC suspends Cricket Canada; Women’s Champions Trophy 2027 rescheduled to February
The ICC suspended Cricket Canada over governance breaches and approved several key decisions, including moving the Women's Champions Trophy 2027 to February.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah and BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia met Sri Lanka Cricket officials during a brief visit to Colombo on Friday, where discussions centred on governance reforms, administrative restructuring and the future of cricket administration in the island nation.
According to a statement from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the meeting was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, with both sides reviewing the progress made in the ongoing governance transition process.

Sri Lanka Cricket officials provided Shah and Saikia with a detailed update on the measures being taken to strengthen governance structures and improve administrative functioning within the board. They also outlined the work currently underway on constitutional and administrative reforms aimed at ensuring greater transparency, accountability and long-term stability.

The SLC delegation informed the ICC and BCCI representatives about the progress achieved so far and shared indicative timelines for completing the reform process. They also discussed plans for restoring governance to a duly elected administration in line with the applicable legal and constitutional framework.
The ICC delegation was briefed on key milestones achieved during the transition period, as well as the steps being taken to ensure a smooth and transparent process. During the discussions, Shah reiterated the ICC’s commitment to supporting its member boards in promoting good governance, transparency and the continued development of cricket.
Sri Lanka Cricket also expressed its appreciation to Shah and Saikia for visiting Colombo and engaging in discussions on the future direction of cricket administration in the country.
Apart from governance matters, the meeting also covered cricket development initiatives, bilateral cooperation and ways to further strengthen the relationship between Sri Lanka Cricket, the ICC and the BCCI.
Earlier in the day, Shah met Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and discussed the current state of cricket in the country. The discussions focused on expanding opportunities for young and emerging players, strengthening grassroots and youth development programmes, and exploring how cricket can contribute to social development and economic growth in Sri Lanka.
The visit underlined the ICC’s continued engagement with Sri Lanka Cricket as the board works towards implementing reforms and strengthening its administrative framework for the future.
